About Vanessa Curran
My Story
Hi! I’m Vanessa—LPCC and owner of A New Narrative Counseling. I am so glad you landed on my page! Finding the right therapist is a key component to getting started. You may have tried therapy before, or maybe this is your first time and you’re not sure what to expect. I am happy to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
I’m a therapist specializing in women’s mental health, with a focus on supporting women through some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative experiences. I believe therapy should feel safe, human, and deeply supportive — a place where you don’t have to explain or minimize your story, and where healing happens at your pace.
A large part of my work centers on sexual trauma and trauma recovery. I approach this work with gentleness, respect, and a strong trauma-informed foundation. My goal is to help you rebuild a sense of safety, trust, and connection with yourself, without pressure or re-traumatization. You are always in control of the process, and we move forward collaboratively.
I also specialize in perinatal and postpartum therapy, supporting women through fertility challenges, pregnancy, birth, postpartum mood disorders, and the emotional adjustments of new parenthood. This season can be overwhelming, isolating, and full of unexpected emotions — you don’t have to navigate it alone.
In addition, I work with women experiencing perimenopause and midlife transitions, including anxiety, mood changes, identity shifts, relationship stress, and the emotional impact of hormonal changes. These transitions are real, valid, and often misunderstood, and therapy can be a powerful space to feel grounded and supported through them.
My therapy style is warm, relational, and collaborative. I tailor each session to your unique needs, drawing from evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches such as EMDR, TF-CBT, ACT, DBT, IFS, and mindfulness. Above all, I strive to create a space where you feel seen, believed, and accepted — exactly as you are.
If you’re looking for women’s therapy, trauma therapy, postpartum support, or perimenopause counseling, I would be honored to walk alongside you on your healing journey.
When I am not in the office, I enjoy reading a good book with an iced coffee (even in winter!), connecting with friends, yoga, and trail hikes with my best four-legged companion, Hazel.
